On Friday  23rd March, Thistle & Rose initiated Bro Steven Scales as its newest member.

It was a special ceremony with his father Bro Billy in attendance.

The festive board was a St Patricks Day’s celebration with suitable attire and a lecture on the patron Saint of Ireland by none other than WBro Ronnie Stone.

Thistle & Rose members are now eagerly awaiting the next Patron Saint celebration taking place on Wednesday April 25th , celebrating the English Rose, St.George.

German Oompah Night at the Complex Saturday May 19th

I would like to thank all the staff and management for all their help with Heritage Ladies Night.

Also to everyone who came, Annette and I had a fantastic night.

Seems strange how only 6 months ago Annette was very strongly against having a Ladies Night, now saying it was a brilliant night and one she will remember for the rest of her life.

Also a big thank you to all who made her feel so welcome and who have become our friends. There are so many who have befriended Annette that I can not mention, I can not believe the change I’ve seen in Annette. Maybe Freemasonary isn’t just about making good men better, as it has also helped Annette so much.

Never have I felt more proud to be a Freemason.

Following a highly successful passing of a Father and Son  in the temple, over 50 members and visitors sat down to a tremendous Festive Board.

Thistle & Rose Lodge have in recent months presented a Scottish themed Burns night in February, a St.Patricks night in March and ,to finish off their Masonic season , it was the turn of St.George,

and what an entertaining evening it was . Providing the entertainment prior to the Roast Beef and Yorkshire pud (it had to be didn’t it? )  were the ladies from the

BIG ABOUT SINGING Ladies Choir.

They are a Corby Community Choir and they provided a real English feel at the beginning of the meal with songs that included “Greensleeves“, “There will always be an England“, “Land of Hope and Glory” to name just a few. The Choir master even had the audience join in with renditions of “When the Saints go marching in ” and “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot“. and it was great to see every one of the Masonic brothers singing along as they were instructed!

Our Masonic events are now reducing as quite a few of our Lodges, Chapters and other Masonic orders wind down for the Summer.

There are still a few to come in June , so look out for their details at the end of this Month.

Meanwhile why not take a look at what is happening this month.

Incidentally, I know the Oompah night on the 19th May is not just for Masons, but we should all try and support our Complex in our Charity works, so please contact Jason for a ticket or two.

What a great night it was at the CMC when we had the Oompah night on Saturday May 19th.

All the Bar staff got into the spirit by dressing up in their finest Bavarian outfits.

Over 100 people attended and a great night was had by all. Here are just a few photos from our Facebook account.

The Possees of Thistle and Rose at the recent Ladies Night.

Another great Ladies night on June 2nd, this time for Thistle & Rose and another well attended evening with everyone looking their best in their fineries.

As many of you know, Rab Reid runs a group of Thistle & Rose masons who visit other lodges during the masonic season. The slight twist is that each of ‘RABS POSSEE’ as they call themselves, has to produce their membership coin whenever they are together as a group at meetings.

Failure to produce said coin results in a “Fine.” All proceeds from the fines collected are then handed to the Charity steward.

Some of their members are pictured below at the recent Ladies night. Certainly looks like at least one member was fined !!

Not to be outdone their Ladies have now decided to create their own group.

I understand a name has yet to be chosen, my own suggestions are perhaps “Winnies Possums”, or maybe “Ali’s” Poshees.

When I hear what the name is I will certainly pass it on.

Following the event that was held in April at the Corby Cube in aid of Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and PROST , we can now reveal the monies raised on the night.

The great news is that our share of the nights profits amounted to a fantastic £1026 which has now been shared between both charities.

Our congratulations and thanks must go to Eddie Storey who did a lot of hard work in helping to organise this event.

The calendars have all been updated and from today you can now plan for your own Masonic timetable for the coming season here at the Corby Masonic Complex.

There is barely a week that goes by without at least one meeting held whether that is Lodge, Chapter, Mark, Mariners , KT or one of the other side orders.

Provided you meet their criteria, all of the meetings welcome masonic visitors either those who are locally based or those just visiting from other provinces and countries.

Just contact the organiser who will provide all the information you need, to come and enjoy not only the meeting but our renowned Festive Boards.

Update from the Chairman

Brethren

What a wonderful summer recess. The weather has been so good, the complex and our facilities have been enjoyed by masons and the public throughout the summer, there have been many paid for events, already with more to follow. The complex looks resplendent and certainly our continuous program of investment is a proven strategy.

You will notice that your complex has been further updated, in the refurbishment of the main function room.

This includes the introduction of an acoustic curtain, a dropped ceiling, chandeliers and a full redecoration.  This represents a major investment for the Complex, and could not have been achieved without a number of volunteers who have given up a lot of time, and the help of the Provincial Building Fund.

My congratulations go to all of our acting Provincial Officers and the incoming masters of our Lodges and other orders that call our complex home, I am sure we will all have another memorable season. As usual we have a number of additional events booked including the Ladies Festivals below and a full schedule of regular masonic meetings can be found on the website.

Best wishes

 Jimmy Spence

Complex Chairman
